Daniel and Samuel Sizer bought 80 acres of land for $1.25 per acre in 1869. Adjusted for inflation, that is roughly $17.33 per acre for a present day cost of $1386.40. That land, which is what we now call La Jolla, is worth (conservatively) $1.25 million an acre. The total? $100,000,000.00.
